When they came to him saying, \"Peace be with you,\" he replied to their greeting in the same manner and said to himself, \"These are a strange people\".

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ فَجَآءَ بِعِجْلٍۢ سَمِينٍۢ ﴿٢٦﴾

He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf.

فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ ﴿٢٧﴾

He placed it before them. Then he said, \"Why are you not eating?\"

فَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةًۭ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍۢ ﴿٢٨﴾

He began to feel afraid. They said, \"Do not be afraid,\" and then gave him the glad news of the birth of a knowledgeable son.

فَأَقْبَلَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ فِى صَرَّةٍۢ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌۭ ﴿٢٩﴾

His wife came forward, crying and beating her face, saying, \"I am an old barren woman!\"

قَالُوا۟ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ﴿٣٠﴾

They said, \"This is true but your Lord has said, (that you will have a son); He is All-wise and All-knowing\".

۞ قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ ﴿٣١﴾

Abraham asked, \"Messengers, what is your task?\"

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍۢ مُّجْرِمِينَ ﴿٣٢﴾

They replied, \"We have been sent to a sinful people

لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةًۭ مِّن طِينٍۢ ﴿٣٣﴾

to bring down upon them showers of marked lumps of clayy.

مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ ﴿٣٤﴾

They are transgressors in the presence of your Lord\".

فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿٣٥﴾

We saved the believers among them,

فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ ﴿٣٦﴾

but We found only one Muslim house.

وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ ﴿٣٧﴾

We left therein evidence for those who fear the painful torment.

وَفِى مُوسَىٰٓ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَٰنٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ ﴿٣٨﴾

There is also evidence (of the Truth) in the story of Moses when We sent him to the Pharaoh with clear authority.

فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَٰحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌۭ ﴿٣٩﴾

The Pharaoh and his forces turned away from him, saying, \"He is either a magician or an insane person\".

فَأَخَذْنَٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذْنَٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌۭ ﴿٤٠﴾

We seized him and his army and threw them into the sea. He himself was to be blamed.

وَفِى عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلْعَقِيمَ ﴿٤١﴾

There is also evidence of the Truth in the story of Ad whom We struck with a violent wind

مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَىْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِ ﴿٤٢﴾

which turned everything it approached into dust.

وَفِى ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍۢ ﴿٤٣﴾

There is also evidence (of the Truth) in the story of the Thamud, who were told to enjoy themselves for an appointed time.

فَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ ﴿٤٤﴾

They transgressed against the command of their Lord. So a blast of sound struck them and they were unable to do anything but stare.

فَمَا ٱسْتَطَٰعُوا۟ مِن قِيَامٍۢ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنتَصِرِينَ ﴿٤٥﴾

They were unable to stand up, nor were they helped.

وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍۢ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًۭا فَٰسِقِينَ ﴿٤٦﴾

The people of Noah who lived before them were also evil doing people.

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيْنَٰهَا بِأَيْي۟دٍۢ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ ﴿٤٧﴾

We have made the heavens with Our own hands and We expanded it.

وَٱلْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَٰهَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْمَٰهِدُونَ ﴿٤٨﴾

We have spread out the earth and how brilliantly it is spread!

وَمِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ ﴿٤٩﴾

We have created everything in pairs so that perhaps you may take heed.

فَفِرُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ ﴿٥٠﴾

(Muhammad), tell them,\"Seek refuge in God. I have been sent from Him to plainly warn you.

وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ ﴿٥١﴾

Do not choose other gods besides Him. I have been sent from Him to plainly warn you\".

كَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَتَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا۟ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ ﴿٥٢﴾

In the same way no Messenger came to those who lived before them without his people calling him a magician or an insane person.

أَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِهِۦ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌۭ طَاغُونَ ﴿٥٣﴾

Have they inherited such dealings with the Prophets from their predecessors or are they a rebellious people?

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِمَلُومٍۢ ﴿٥٤﴾

(Muhammad), leave them alone and you will not be blamed.

وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿٥٥﴾

Keep on reminding them. This benefits the believers.

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ ﴿٥٦﴾

We have created jinn and human beings only that they might worship Me.

مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍۢ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ ﴿٥٧﴾

I do not expect to receive any sustenance from them or that they should feed Me.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُ ﴿٥٨﴾

It is God Who is the Sustainer and the Lord of invincible strength.

فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبًۭا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ ﴿٥٩﴾

The unjust will bear a burden like that of their unjust predecessors. Let them not make Me bring immediate punishment upon them.

فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن يَوْمِهِمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ ﴿٦٠﴾

Woe to the disbelievers when the day with which they have been threatened comes!
